The organisation and practice of local youth work needs …

to provide youth workers with information, education, training and support that is relevant and adapted to local needs and to stimulate and support continuous competence development.

Society and the needs and interests of young people are constantly changing and due to this youth workers are constantly confronted with new questions and challenges. In order to be able to handle this youth workers need to have access to relevant and continuously updated information, education and training, as well as to time and space to discuss and digest this input and its consequences with their peers. The support of networking, peer learning and exchange is hence important elements in stimulating and supporting continuous competence development among youth workers.

Remember! Development is far from always a linear process! It needs to start with discussions, but the first ‘Action to take’ might be to gather more knowledge before setting aims for development and deciding on further actions to take. Dare to be both flexible and to take one step back before taking two steps forward!
