The Finnish National Agency for Education is organizing two study visits for youth workers at the municipal level in Finland this May. These activities are helping the quality development of the municipal youth work practices across Europe. Both visits are part of the partnership with the Europe Goes Local project.
The first study ‘Youth Work in Schools’ takes place from the 15th to the 19th of May in Lahti. It will show you how youth workers play an important role in the school system and how this cooperation works. Moreover, you will get to see how youth workers fit into the everyday life of schools, and how youth work can support the other professionals in schools: teachers, curators, and nurses.
Additionally, you will learn how organizations dealing with the prevention of substance abuse and mental health are contributing to schoolwork by training teachers, providing materials, and running services. You will also get a glimpse of how to use gaming in a school setting. Finally, you will see examples of schools in the city of Lahti and in the nearby town of Hollola.
The second study visit is ‘Municipal Youth Work in Helsinki’. It takes place from the 16th to 19th of May in Helsinki. This study visit aims to show the participants how the city of Helsinki organizes its municipal youth work. You will see how youth work is structured and delivered in the largest city in Finland, what goes on behind the screens in administrative planning, and how it translates into practices on young people’s everyday level.
On the study visit, you will be able to see what the guiding principles of municipal youth work are, how the priorities are set, how are the end-users needs included, and also how evaluation of work, knowledge management, and documentation support service development.
